Thanaplast program

EXPLORE ALL OF THE POTENTIAL OF THE DEINOCOCCUS LIBRARY

DEINOVE is willing to explore all the potential applications of its library of 6,000 strains with partners showing interest. As an example, DEINOVE is part of the THANAPLAST™ program around plastic remediation, a project led by Carbios.

THANAPLAST™, one of the first programs of European R&D in the field of plastics

THANAPLAST™ is one of the first projects of R&D efforts in the field of plastics. This 5-year project aims at developing new industrial processes that have the potential to improve the production and recycling of biopolymers.

This project, led by the cleantech Carbios,  and combines DEINOVE, the CNRS, LISBP / INSA of Toulouse (already a DEINOL project partner), the University of Poitiers and two industry majors: Barbier group, (one of Europe’s leaders in plastic film), and the seed company Limagrain, (through Ulice, its subsidiary specialized in the research and development of products derived from cereals). Of a total of €22 million, THANAPLAST™ is supported by OSEO up to €9.6 million in the ISI (Industrial Strategic Innovation) program of assistance to projects.

DEINOVE worked at the start of the project, providing Deinococcus strains potentially producing enzymes of interest for plastic degradation. DEINOVE has received a share-based compensation for its participation and currently holds a 2% stake in Carbios equity.
